Leon Camier hopes some top five finishes could be on the cards as MV Agusta Reparto Corse moves into its second full season of WorldSBK next year.

Ahead of 2016, it has been announced that MV is teaming up with Giovanni Cuzari’s Forward Racing operation with Marco Melandri set to take part in testing, triggering rumours in the press that the Italian could return to the series to race full-time.

WorldSBK.com spoke with Leon Camier at last weekend’s Valencia Grand Prix.

Leon, will you be continuing with MV Agusta in 2016?
At the end of last year I signed a two-year contract with MV. It will continue for next year. I have seen many things in the press and whatnot, but it will continue as planned. I know there are talks going on with Melandri to be the test rider; for me that is really positive, as he has a lot of experience and I think he could be quite strong for us and our development.

Earlier this year we heard from you and Team Principal Brian Gillen that the plan is to continue with a one-rider team. Could that change with the new setup?
Difficult to say [laughs]! The plan I know for the minute is that it will be one rider. I think, if the budget was to change or whatever the reason may be, then I think he (Melandri) would be next in line to have a bike. I believe the plan is for him to test the bike in Jerez at the end of the month and then I will do the last two days. That’s the plan at the minute. I think it will be good for him to try the bike and see what he feels, but at the minute as far as I know it is just one rider and that is meant to be me.

Will there be many changes to the F4 RR next season?
A lot of changes are meant to be happening. This year, to be honest, there wasn’t so much development, but now MV has a year of understand and learning behind them. I think this is really positive. We know the direction in which we need to go with the bike, with the chassis, power and stuff like that.

We have a lot of information now. Over the winter we need to make a lot more parts to go testing at the beginning of the year with a new package. The base will stay the same, but there will be quite a few changes. From what I understand development-wise, from what is happening now, there are a lot of things that will change. Hopefully everything is looking good to improve!

Where can we expect to see you in the field?
Until we start the season and know which bikes are on the grid and how competitive every bike is, it is difficult to say where we will be. For sure, I would like to be consistently in the top ten and I think it will be possible – with the changes we have coming – to be in the top six sometimes. Top six/top five would be very good.
